Sensei Malcolm's career began in Judo in 1964 after a number of years training as a boxer. As a young and fit youngster he was immediately drawn to the hard training and discipline regularly practice in Judo Scotland. He began his Judo at the "TORA SCOTIA" club which translates means the Tiger of Scotland. Throughout his early years in Judo Sensei Malcolm competed with regular success in gaining such honours as winning not only one but two silver medals at both middleweight and open weight in the army championships held in York in 1966 when he was a serving soldier in the 1960's. He was also given the honour of being part of the Scottish Judo team in 1970 by the then coach George Kerr (9th Dan). After his competitive career, Sensei Malcolm went on to coach at numerous clubs throughout the county, both by invitation, as well as the club at which he was coached. In 1970 he opened the "Edinburgh Bushido Judo Club" in order to both train himself and to pass on the knowledge he had gained so far. In doing so he was to begin a legacy that will continue for many years to come. As time passed Sensei Malcolm produced many Dan Grades and champions as well as furthering his own knowledge by studying not only competitive judo but the Kodokan Judo that Master Kano had set down. He posses a deep knowledge of the "Kata" of Judo as well as the complexities of the art which can only be mastered by many years through hard work and study. Presently 60 years old and with 40 years Judo experience Sensei Malcolm continues to be a hard competitor at the club and is comfortable in demonstrating his skill on all Levels of the Junior and Senior members of the club. He Currently holds the rank of 5th Dan in Judo and a number of other qualifications, that only enforce his dedication and mastery of the sport he loves.
